To cater to the flexibility of the modern exhibition of worldwide creators, f22’s character is to bring new compositions to unusual panels arrangement using large scale projection and premium lighting equipments. As a design strategy, LAAB interpreted the schematic statement and created a 9000 SF gallery that represents the contemporary of the old and the new through a series of unique references and streamlined camera details.

Arriving at the entrance, visitors pass through a mechanical doorway comprised of coated brass linear aligned which leads to the main staircase connected 2 storeys galleries. Placed on either side of the entrance, camera room & foto bookstore allow for a gradual passage from the moody lift lobby into the sophisticated film interior of main exhibition space. The transformative entryway accentuates the delighted volume and in turn the transition provides a manifestation of foto space correlation, “open & close” association.
 

Dominating the main gallery, the black and white wall panels references the film rolls of camera’s mechanism in a minimal linear presentation. The twisted Brass-stainless steel staircase structure consists of 20 flights, which are rotated and hanged at the axis sysmetrical to reinforce the weight above the ceiling. The complex geometry inspired from the camera aperture end up in a simplicity and relatively simple expression that yields a unique and elegant form. The steel weld structure offers strong & stable connection which maintains structural support and a circulation among 2 galleries. Bespoke downlight and suspended light fixtures are being placed strategically to create a spot that further highlights the exquisite details of the spiral structure.

In the design of f22 foto space, LAAB seek to avoid any direct connections to the camera component, while mixing modern and classic materials to fabricate an unique and graceful exhibition space that value the delicate collection of contemporary photography. f22 foto space is a glass-fronted billboard a unconventional approach to exhibition design, smoothly integrating the interior design, furniture, lighting fixtures, smart controls, and mobile mechanism. By defining an aesthetic from the mood and lighting of Leica cmaera right down to its detailed spatial construction, the fabrication is a visionary making yet highly functional contemporary gallery.
